How much can a commercial solar system actually save?
It depends on your roof or land, your usage, and your rates with Duke Energy or Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC). Most Orlando commercial projects offset a large share of their electric bill and pay back the net cost in a handful of years once incentives are applied. We model your specific numbers in the free assessment.
What incentives are available to businesses?
The federal Investment Tax Credit covers 30% of the system cost, with an additional 10% bonus available when the system uses qualifying domestic-content materials. On top of that, businesses can depreciate the system (MACRS plus bonus depreciation), recovering much of the remaining cost against taxable income. Your exact benefit depends on your tax situation — we help you understand what your project qualifies for, and you should confirm specifics with your tax advisor.
How long does payback take?
For a typical Florida commercial system the combination of the tax credit, depreciation, and avoided electric costs commonly brings payback into the low single-digit years — after which the power is essentially free for the 25+ year life of the system.
Will installation disrupt my operations?
Rarely. Most commercial rooftop and ground-mount work happens outside your occupied space, and the brief utility tie-in is scheduled around your hours. We plan the work to keep your business running.
What kind of roof or property do I need?
Flat and low-slope commercial roofs are ideal, but pitched metal and shingle work too. No suitable roof? A ground-mount array or a solar carport over your parking lot are excellent alternatives. We assess what fits during the free evaluation.
Do I still need the utility / does net metering work in Florida?
Yes — you stay connected to Duke Energy (or your local utility) and draw from the grid when you need to. Florida investor-owned utilities offer net metering, so the excess power your system sends back earns you credit. We handle the interconnection paperwork.
Should I add battery backup?
For many commercial sites, yes — batteries cut demand charges, keep critical loads running through outages, and let you use solar power after sunset. Whether it pencils out depends on your rate structure and how much an outage costs you. We size it honestly as part of the proposal.
Who actually installs the system?
Every system sold through Commercial Solar FL is designed and installed by May Electric Solar — a licensed Florida Master Electrician contractor (FL Lic. EC13005353) and Enphase Platinum Installer, in business since 2006 with an in-house team and no subcontractors.
What maintenance does a commercial system need?
Very little. Solar has no moving parts; an occasional rinse and a monitored production check is typically all it takes. We monitor output remotely and are alerted automatically if anything underperforms.
How do we get started?
Request a free, no-obligation assessment. We review a recent electric bill and your roof or land, then come back with a clear proposal — system size, production, incentives, and payback — specific to your building.
